The Post-Self MUCK is a real-time text-based roleplaying environment co-hosted by Skunks& The Lament that primarily depicts the Lagrange System after the Century Attack.
MU*s such as the Post-Self MUCK are distinguished from forums or IRC in that they are organized into rooms, an imaginary place to which a character goes. These rooms each have descriptions, objects and other characters within them, and are separate in that conversations in one room cannot generally be heard from another. This lends a sort of spatiality to the roleplaying experience that is not found in other forms of chat roleplay.
MUCKs (Multi-User Construction Kits) are distinguished from other MU*s in that they enable all players to create new areas and objects as they please, and even to write interactive softcode to dynamically modify the presentation of these things. Many players just jump in with a character and a personal description and call it a day, however, and that is the main attraction of the MUCK, after all!
The Post-Self setting was designed to reflect many of the mechanics of MUCKs, mirroring common organizational structures such as realms (sub-areas with local administration) or starter sims and actions such as sweep
ing people from sims or morph
ing oneself into alternate appearances.
