The Lost
The Lost were a group of individuals in the early 2110s prior to the advent of the System who were caught up in political turmoil. As part of an effort to stop the spread of information, some governmental power triggered a virus in the implants with which they accessed the immersive 'net. While all of the lost were rescued, several committed suicide shortly after. Their experiences provided the foundation for what would become the System.
