After the Century Attack, a proposal was made to expand the Lagrange System into several distinct physical components known as shards. This endeavor began in the 2410s and was undertaken by the System Consortium to provided a set up which was more robust against future attacks or other catastrophes. It was part of the Second Space-Age, which had been ramping up through the relative peace of the latter half of the 24th century. By 2450, there were shards at the Earth-Moon L4 point, the Earth-Sun L4 and L5 points, and in orbit around Mars.Paracanon

Each shard holds a portion of Lagrange, including sims, cladists, and their creations, as well as some back-up space. Shards are connected to each other via Ansible link, and travel between shards is seamless from the cladist's perspective, though they are still limited by transmission times; as such, the active portions of the shards are not replication but distribution, leaving the passive, storage sections of each shard for replication of data.
