"Made in the Image" is a short story featuring What Right Have I of the Ode clade exploring a therian identity (shaping herself into the form of a non-anthropomorphized skunk) and the spiritual struggles that follow, questioning whether to do so leaves her b'tzelem Elohim (made in the image of God).

The Ode clade, that of Michelle Hadje/Sasha, is one of the earliest clades on the System, and the subject of much of the canon to date.

Structure
The members of the Ode clade — at least those who are explicitly members of it — take their names from the lines of a poem, "Ode to the End of Death", written by Michelle's friend and one of the fellow Lost, AwDae. Michelle Hadje forked the first ten lines in one go on systime 2124.

The Ode comprises 100 lines divided into ten stanzas, each loosely based around a central theme. Because of these themes and because of the mindset that she was in when she forked each of the first ten, each stanza within the clade has tended to pick up a particular hyperfixation.

The first stanza: watchers
The first stanza was keenly focused on observing the System. This occasionally manifested itself as spying, but just as often played itself out in more innocent ways such as I Have Sight But Cannot See who became a sensorium toolmaker and I Cannot Stop Myself From Speaking who became a private investigator.

Appears in:

* Mitzvot
* Marsh

The second stanza: historians
The second stanza focused on history. From Qoheleth's shaping of the System's memories from the early days on to Hold My Name Beneath Your Tongue And Know's fixation on tricksters both past and present.

Appears in:

* Qoheleth
* Toledot
* Marsh

The third stanza: spiritualists
The third stanza focused on religion and spirituality, returning to the Judaism of Michelle's grandparents and her "vaguely Jewish" upbringing.

Appears in:

* Marsh
* "Prophecies"
* Kaddish

The fourth stanza: fighters
The fourth stanza started out keeping tabs on art and artists throughout the System, but eventually wandered off to do a leftism.

Appears in:

* April May Yet come

The fifth stanza: entertainers
The fifth stanza leapt into theatre wholeheartedly, with Time Is A Finger Pointing At Itself starting the troupe Au Lieu Du Rêve with her up-tree instances.

Appears in:

* Nevi'im
* Mitzvot
* Motes Played
* Marsh
* "Nasturtiums" and "Columbines"
* Idumea
* Several smaller works

The sixth stanza: caregivers
The sixth stanza picked up most of Michelle's feelings on motherhood and the role of caregiver that she felt as a teacher. This extended beyond just a parental role: I Remember The Rattle Of Dry Grass became a systech, reasoning that that made her the System's mother, in a way.

Appears in:

* Mitzvot (mentioned)
* Motes Played
* Marsh
* Idumea

The seventh stanza: emotives
The seventh stanza leaned hard into emotions and, eventually, therapy within the System.

Appears in:

* Mitzvot
* Idumea

The eighth stanza: conductors
The eighth stanza has played perhaps the largest role in the grand scheme of things, leaning hard into politics and guiding the System along its path. The Only Time I Know My True Name Is When I Dream in particular helped keep the System on the path of general anarchy and ensured its continuity and stability by any means necessary.

Appears in most canon works via True Name and May Then My Name Die With Me.

The ninth stanza: artists
The ninth stanza focused on the arts in various ways, from novelists to game designers, sim artists to construct artists, instance artists to sightwrights.

Appears in most canon works via Dear The Wheat And Rye Under The Stars, Dear, Also, The Tree That Was Felled, and Which Offers Heat And Warmth In Fire.

The tenth stanza: "the part that suffers"
The tenth stanza, originally intended to focus on processing the traumas of the past, was left with much of the mental health and instance problems that Michelle suffered leading up to forking. This is not to say that they were at all unhappy, but neither were they quite as whole as the rest of the clade.

Appears in:

* Nevi'im (mentioned)
* Marsh (mentioned)
* Idumea

Dandelions
Due to the experiences that Michelle/Sasha had while lost, the Odists have an abiding fixation on dandelions. Michelle/Sasha herself created a sim which was simply a field of well-tended grass dotted liberally with dandelions, and many of the clade include dandelions in their own sims.

Overflowing
All of the Odists undergo what they have named "overflowing," which is something akin to a panic attack or dramatic mood shift which will affect them for anything from a few hours every few days to a few weeks every few years. Each expresses it differently, and usually it will involve an inversion of their own personal fixation. If it is notable, it will be listed on their own page.

Makyo: Patched out

The Contraproprioceptive Virus (CPV) was a tailored virus designed to crash a specific cladist on the System. For most of the System's history, it was the primary method of killing individuals sys-side. Viral constructs were often knives, syringes, or other menacing objects. In order for an instance to be affected, the construct must have instilled an anticipation of danger and cause some kind of injury. Poisons and benign objects were inadequate because they did not draw a self-evident connection between the viral construct and the victim; the symbolism of killing was the vector by which CPV afflicted an instance.

An instance afflicted with CPV suffered an unravelling of their sensorium, subjecting them to alien and inhumane sensations that very often coerced them to quit. Those who endured eventually crashed as a consequence of CPV, and the resulting core dump was seldom recoverable. Particularly savvy victims could manage to fork away the virus, although they had only seconds to do so and a great deal of agony to grit their teeth against and often suffered long-term instability regardless.

CPV was seldom used, and the means to create viral constructs is a closely-guarded secret. After the Century Attack, the bug that enabled CPV to function was removed, rendering all viral constructs inert. On the Perils of Memory made it known to the public, and most cladists after 2314 would recognize it if they saw it in use. Crashing as a result of CPV was not a subtle affair; the afflicted instance dissolved into voxels as their avatar became corrupted by their unravelling sense of self. Most victims screamed through the entire ordeal, their voices increasingly distorted until they finally quit or crashed. Witnessing the use of CPV was as traumatic as witnessing a brutal murder because one had witnessed a brutal murder.

CPV was patched out in the aftermath of the Century Attack, which utilized a sort of CPV 'bomb'. As of 2401, CPV is no longer effective on Lagrange, and the fix was soon promulgated to Castor and Pollux.

She grew up in Boulder, Colorado in the Central Corridor, received her degree in theater education from Colorado State University. She taught high-school theater, spending much of her free time on the 'net where she frequented The Crown Pub, a furry hangout, interacting first as a panther and later as a skunk.

Getting lost
Michelle was one of the last individuals lost. She was affected while searching after what had happened to her friend AwDae and getting entangled with some of the politics associated with the Lost. She was rescued after sixteen hours and twenty-three minutes by her and AwDae's friend Debarre.

After some weeks spent recovering from the ordeal, she became an activist and speaker surrounding the issues of the lost and other related protections surrounding digital health for humanity, for which she gained much social popularity and a mix of both popularity and enmity in the political arena.

Early life sys-side
Michelle and Debarre pooled their resources to upload in 2117, and in 2124, she forked ten times, marking the beginning of the Ode clade.

After uploading, she experienced severe dissociation and difficulty maintaining a single form and identity, mirroring her experience while lost. Her appearance is described as shifting constantly between human and skunk. In this state, touch feels uncomfortable or disgusting, and focus is hard to maintain. Because of this, she forked the first ten lines of the Ode clade in 2124 in order to continue her work on the Council of Eight without so much distraction, intentionally ensuring that each fork only maintained a single form. Consequently, each of the first ten lines wound up with an abiding fixation on a particular aspect of her identity.

Later life and quitting
After this point, she retired, often describing herself as 'dead', and leaning into the split identity, thinking of herself as Michelle/Sasha. From then on, she spent much of her time seeking comfort and leaned most heavily on her clade and a few close friends for companionship.

On 2306, after the events that led to Qoheleth's assassination, Michelle/Sasha called her clade (limited to those named after the lines of the Ode) to her sim where she merged all memories (comprising an estimated 6000 years lived in parallel) and quit, leaving the clade without a root instance.

Appearances
While the Ode clade appears in many, many canon works, Michelle/Sasha herself appears only a few:

* Qoheleth
* Toledot
* Motes Played
* Idumea
* "Made in the Image" (briefly)
* Kaddish (briefly)

The Launch Project (or simply Launch) was a project ostensibly begun in 2306, though early planning began all the way back in the late 2284s, to launch two smaller copies of the System in opposite directions out of the Solar System. These two Launch Vehicles (LVs) were named Castor and Pollux, and the System remaining at the Earth-Moon L5 point was renamed Lagrange. Reasons for the project ranged from exploration to preservation. It was one of the first large cooperative efforts between sys- and phys-side since the System's inception.

The two LVs were launched via tangential velocity by being released from the ends of launch arms attached to the rotating Lagrange Station. These launch arms were made of an unspecified material with incredible tensile strength, allowing them to be approximately 5,000 kilometers long. At that rate of rotation, the LVs were released at a velocity of approximately 1,300km/s. Despite the angular velocity amounting to 3,800 gravities (well past "raspberry jam ΔV"), the fact that there were no physical bodies aboard the LVs had little impact on them. Additionally, the launch was timed such that each LV had the chance to slingshot around the gas giants Jupiter and Saturn.
The outer ring aids in visualization but was not included in the construction.
So you’ve gone and read some of the canon, checked up on the setting and timeline, maybe even taken a peek at some of the extras. Are you interested in creating canon material for the Post-Self universe? Wonderful! The setting is open to allow for exploration of topics that are important to all. Here are some guidelines for creating works to be incorporated into the canon.

Mechanics
Most stories take place on or surrounding the System. Much of this wiki is dedicated to explaining and exploring the lives of cladists, however, those are not the only stories to be told. Post-Self is a science fiction setting that can range from soft to hard. Hust because there is room for soft sci-fi, though, there are still bounds on technology:

* No FTL — While space travel picks up in the 2300s, all travel is still sub-light-speed. Additionally, there is no gravity manipulation; gravity must be mimicked either through centrifugal force or through constant acceleration/deceleration.
* No strong AI until later on — At least not until after about 2350. There are some weak AIs out there, and some expert systems. This changes later, and intentional or emergent intelligences can be found, but are rare.
* Neuro- and materials science are the focus — There are many different areas that science fiction likes to explore, but these are the two that humanity has excelled at in this setting. Neural implants, consciousness uploading, and mind emulation are common, documented, and controlled. Very strong, very light, and occasionally very strange materials are similarly common and easy to manufacture, leading to part of humanity's expansion into the Heliosphere.

History
The Lost
During 2112, hundreds of individuals wound up trapped within the implants they used to interact with the immersive portions of the Internet, thanks to a virus triggered by elements of the Western Federation. These individuals, known as the lost, were left changed once they were pulled back to reality.

* Each subjective experience is unique — While RJ and Michelle’s experiences were detailed in Qoheleth, the experience of each of the lost was unique while embedded. There are some shared features, such as a dreamlike quality to their time spent in there and a sense of it being an eternity within that dream, as well as complete solitude. Beyond that, what they actually see, hear, touch, and so on within that experience is unique
* There are permanent effects — All of the lost were left changed by what they experienced while trapped. As stated, all of their experiences are unique, but there are some shared features:
** Language: due to the strange way in which language works within our dreams, each of the lost experiences a unique relationship with language after being pulled back. RJ, for instance, is left with a helpless compulsion to speak lines of poetry, while Michelle and the Odists were left with an allergy to using contractions and a somewhat topsy-turvy engagement with grammar.
** Between dreaming and waking: the boundary between the conscious and subconscious within the lost is thinner, with the logic of dreams tending to linger with them. They may feel confusion in engaging with the waking world, a desire to return to the dream experience, or even difficulty interacting with a world bound by rules that dreams ignore.
* All of those who didn’t die uploaded — Of those who were lost, many committed suicide within the years between 2112. Of those who did not, all uploaded within the first years of the System’s creation.

The System
Most of the stories within the setting take place in the world of uploaded consciousnesses known colloquially as ’the System'.
* The key mechanics — The key mechanics of the System (forking and merging, exocortices, the perisystem architecture, sensoria, cones of silence, the relative perfection of memory, etc) are known by all of the inhabitants via their introductory orientation when they are first uploaded. The same is not necessarily true phys-side, where many hold grand (and sometimes dangerous) views of what life must be like on the System.
* True anarchy — The society aboard Lagrange, Castor, and Pollux borders on a true anarchy. While there are some efforts to steer the general track of the society, they tend toward maintaining that anarchy rather than enforcing any core rule. Even the two specified organizations who poke at this, The Council of Eight in the System’s early days and The Guiding Council on the Pollux launch vehicle, in theory act only as advisory bodies. The Guiding Council does take a far more governance-oriented role near the end of the 2300s.
* A collection of varied societies — Homogeneity is impossible in a System full of, by 2400, more than two trillion people. After all, should one build up a shared set of ideals, one might as well congregate with like-minded people. A set of linked Jesuit sims? Climate activist groups? Furry nightclubs? The answer is yes.
* A species divided — Life phys-side back on Earth continues much as it has. While climate change continues to wreak havoc, people still live out their lives reading, writing, loving, hating, cooking shitty breakfasts for each other. Death remains a constant, life remains something to cling to. Many upload, of course, perhaps leaning on the subsidies offered by governments, but many do not.

The Launch
In 2325, two separate, smaller copies of the System were launched, sent in either direction across the orbital plane. Castor and Pollux quickly made their way away from Earth while the L5 System — now called Lagrange — remained behind.

* Three Systems — One consequence of having these three Systems moving forward is that they quickly began to diverge. This was not just accounted for but, for many, an explicit goal. After two decades, Pollux began to loosen some of its social strictures and gained a leading body in the Guiding Council while Castor maintained much of the status quo until the arrival of the Artemisians.
* Transmission delay — With the high speed of the two LVs (nearly 1,400 kilometers per second), the transmission delay between Castor and Pollux and Lagrange quickly grows so that, by 2400, a message sent from Castor would arrive at Lagrange nearly four months later.

Artemis
First contact happened in 2346 when a new vehicle containing uploaded consciousnesses contacted Castor, one of the two launch vehicles sent out in 2325. Dubbed Artemis, several of the Artemisians wound up joining Castor on its journey, while several from Castor joined the Artemisians.

* Four new races, one new System — Four separate uploaded races live aboard Artemis, each picked up as the vehicle passed by a planetary system with an uploaded population. After convergence, humanity joined as fifthrace as many on Castor uploaded to Artemis.
* Convergence — When Artemis made contact, there was an exchange of emissaries between the two Systems. The result of these meetings was the joining of the five races, known as convergence. Artemisians were allowed to upload to Castor to remain in a restricted zone of the System, also known as Convergence. Anyone who wished to join from the rest of Castor was allowed as well. Similarly, anyone from Castor was allowed to join the Artemisians aboard their craft in turn.
* Skew — Rather than having forking as an available mechanic, those who live on Artemis may individually skew their engagement with time. That is, one may skew positive so that they exist within the system at a faster rate than common time.
* The Council of Ten — Two representatives per race aboard Artemis were selected to act as part of a mediating and guiding body. While often described as purely a group to provide assistance and mediation, it’s suggested that they also gently govern the races aboard without explicitly acknowledging such. This is echoed in Convergence, the location aboard the LV Castor where several Artemisians remain behind, though this remains a far more anarchic mediating body.

The world is built for this
Queerness
The Post-Self setting is aggressively and explicitly queer. This is a place to explore identity through romance — monogamous and polyamorous — gender, species, plurality, anything. If it can be queered, please queer it! The System makes an attractive target for queer identities, after all. Does a trans character transition further sys-side, or do they revel in that identity? Perhaps a plural character experiments with forking out singular identities, perhaps not. The setting is ripe for metafurry exploration — that is, furries themselves who upload and get to live their lives as their fursonas. The society is far, far more accepting of queer identities than today’s, even phys-side.

Neurodivergence
As neurodivergence follows one along after uploading, this is an area ripe for exploration, whether that means finding ways to fork it away or finding ways to revel in it as an integral part of oneself.

Climate crisis
One big draw to the System is getting away from the worsening climate back on Earth. Even after it starts to level out (and even improve) around 2350, the System offers greener grass. This is later complicated by the similar energy crisis. There are many stories to be told there.

The bittersweet
Uploading is one-way and destructive. There is a loss behind every upload. The System itself is built on the backs of the lost. Climate grief remains a real issue. Finding ways to deal with grief and yet find the sweet in one’s new life is part and parcel of the setting.

Self-inserts
Imagine yourself in a world you could come to love. An open universe invites you to imagine what you — yes, you! — might do with such a setting just as much as it invites you to create new characters of your own or use those of others (with permission!). The concept of a ‘Mary Sue’ is a toxic remnant of machismo in geek spaces and should not prevent you from exploring a lovely existence for yourself.

Reconsider before writing this
Violence
While there is some violence in the System, and obviously things remain somewhat difficult back phys-side, the core of the conflict should not boil down to or result in wanton violence. The goal is not to write of wars — political, ideological, religious, or turf — nor of punchy shooty explosiony action as the guiding plot-point. There are plenty fine settings for this; Post-Self simply is not one of them.

Bigotry
There are some taboos that remain, such as the one surrounding intraclade relationships (until about 2355), but there is little need to overcome adversity over identity sys-side. Explore these identities, yes. Explore the lingering effects of bigotry experienced phys-side, but there are stories of personal fulfillment to be had without necessarily focusing on these particular struggles. Actual transphobia, homophobia, racism, etc. on behalf of the authors is unwelcome and will be denounced.

Using other people’s characters without asking
Try not to use other people’s characters — even open clades such as the Ode clade — without asking. While many will say yes, this will have the added benefit of you being able to write more closely to the author’s vision, as they will often have paracanon to share. Additionally, in some cases, these characters feature in the noemata of several individuals’ headmates or personalities, and it’s worth avoiding trampling on identities!

Even after it starts to level out (and even improve) after about 2350, the System offers greener grass.

Additionally, in some cases, these characters feature in the noemata of several individuals’ headmates or personalities, and it’s worth avoiding trampling on identities!

right

The United Nations (usually the UN) is the primary governing body for humanity after the fall of capitalism in the early mid 2300s. While its structure is much as it is today, the meanings of a few divisions have changed over the centuries.

The Procurement Division
The UNPD is responsible for acquiring good and materials for UN projects. As the relevance of the UN increased later in the 24th century, the division has expanded to become the interface between the population and the library economy that followed in the wake of capitalism. They manage access to large, dangerous, or difficult to manufacture goods, and also now provide services such as connecting those with specialized needs to those who can meet those needs, acting as a sort of middle-man. Despite this, interaction with the UNPD is not a requirement, and individuals or organizations can connect as they wish. Rather, it acts as an easy centralized network that most people wind up using because it works well enough.

In this role, the UNPD is more of an organizer than a producer. Work is not necessarily done in-house, but is rather contracted out to others offering services such as logistics or production, including with other UN departments.

The Peacekeepers
The Peacekeepers are the defensive/preventative force within the UN, often being seen as a role akin to, say, mall cops. They do not expect to get into any sort of conflict, and will often live or stay temporarily on stations and larger ships as a way form of added security.

IRIS
Named after the Internal Resolution for International Security passed during the strife surrounding the fall of capitalism, IRIS was formed after the dissolution of the UN Defense Council as the military arm of the organization. It was seen as a complicated answer to a terrible problem, and its success originally resulted in a boom in nationalism and a return to oldschool 1920s-style imperialism, and it was not until the UN began taking human rights seriously in the latter part of the 2300s into the 2400s that IRIS returned as a liberationary force. While it was disarmed during the peacetime that followed and set as a reserve force for much of the 25th century, the growing energy crisis has led to rearmament.

Despite its capabilities as a military organization, for the most part, IRIS offers humanitarian aid on an industrial scale, combining manpower and organizational powers in order to get work done. Additionally, it acts as an emergency response force, with many members being more akin to firefighters and paramedics.
Welcome to the Post-Self wiki!
This wiki is intended to provide a repository for information surrounding the Post-Self setting. This can be everything from the mechanics of the canon to character descriptions, summaries of works to timelines. It is user-editable for anyone with an account. For help, please see @makyo on the Post-Self Discord.

Looking for a quick introduction?
The best place to start is What is Post-Self? Spoiler free~

This wiki is not a spoiler-free space!
Please expect spoilers for all Post-Self canon, including as yet unpublished works, throughout the entire wiki except for the pages in the no-spoilers category.

Canonicity
Unless otherwise stated, information here is considered canon. You may, however, see notices for the following

* Paracanon: Paracanon is material that informs canon, which is to say that it does not appear in the story itself, but provides the backbone for events in that story. This information is useful for creating and may be interesting in its own right, but is subject to change
* Protocanon: Protocanon is material that is currently in development, which is generally accepted by the community, or which is merely nice to have. It may wind up in informing canon in the future, in which case this label will be changed. This is absolutely subject to change.

Jonas Anderson is the origin of the Jonas clade, a member of the Council of Eight and an MP in the British Isles in the Western Federation prior to uploading. He was the first upload from the Western Fed.

After uploading, he helped to found the Council of Eight along with a few others as part of an agreement between the Sino-Russian Bloc and the Western Fed. As the System began to solidify into something resembling its final form, he formed the Jonas clade with a few cladists at first, though this soon blossomed to include several thousand. He quickly formed an alliance with True Name in order to secure the continuity and stability of the System, including both the efforts of Secession and Launch.

Jonas Prime, the root instance of the clade, had experienced deterioration of his mental health throughout the early to mid 2300s, leading too an ungrounded state of being. This in turn led to his attempted assassination of True Name in a bid for more open power on Lagrange, and his quitting in 2365. The clade continues, rootless, with most of the members distancing themselves from their down-tree's behavior.

Uploading
Prior to uploading, Jonas was a politician. He led a small leftist party within the Western Fed based out of the British Isles. He was outspoken in his support of the Lost and decried the behavior of those responsible as treasonous. As a result, he was pushed to upload as an 'honor' that would get him out of the way. He was provided with a passphrase to respond with to prove that the procedure had been a success.

Upon uploading, he was able to provide the passphrase as instructed, thus opening up the path for non-S-R Bloc citizens to upload to the fledgling System. This early entry into sys-side life — Jonas was one of the first 1,000 to upload — led to him being a prime candidate for the foundation of the Council of Eight. His connection with the Lost as well as his work with her on the political stage prior to the advent of the System led to him recommending Michelle Hadje to her position on the council as well.

Makyo: Add root instance

A clade is a group of cladists all descended from a single uploaded consciousness. The original root instance may fork to allow those new instances to lead lives of their own, individuating as they will.

Socially, ephemeral instances such as those created to accomplish a task or for fun are not generally considered separate members of a clade. For instance, if a cladist were to fork to go stir the pot of soup while they fry the onions, they generally keep the same name and general sense of identity. A clade, thus, is somewhat dependent on two or more individuated instances.

Terminology
* Root instance describes the instance tracing a line directly back to uploading without any forking.

* Up-tree describes one who is further away from the root from oneself (that would be one who is forked from oneself).
* Down-tree describes a cladist who is closer to the root from oneself (the one from whom one is forked).
* Cross-tree cladists are those who are not directly in line towards the root or up-tree from oneself.

Naming
One's clade name is free for the root instance to choose and applies to all those who are forked from them unless they choose to leave the clade. It is a free-form field that is not tied to any one particular language (e.g: Dear of the Ode clade versus Loam dos Riãos).

And We Are The Motes In The Stage-Lights of the Ode clade is a member of the fifth stanza, an up-tree of Time Is A Finger Pointing At Itself. She often presents as an anthropomorphic skunk, looking to be anywhere between five and twelve years old, though she occasionally presents as a human in her mid twenties, more slender than her cocladists, with a very flower-child aesthetic.

Life
Motes was forked in systime 2127 as A Finger Pointing began to build the theatre troupe Au Lieu Du Rêve. Her job was to work on set and prop design. Her focus beyond that was to lean into play as a form of hedonism. Over time, this led to her aging down her appearance and leaning specifically into childlike play, and then a reclamation of childhood itself.

As time went on, she began to incorporate various aspects of childhood into her life, including a family dynamic. She began to treat A Finger Pointing and Beholden as her parents, calling them 'Ma' and 'Bee', and the rest of the stanza as siblings. Slow Hours in particular became a trusted sister. Many of them called her diminutive nicknames as well, such as 'Speck', 'Mote', or 'Skunklet', with A Finger Pointing and Beholden referring to her as 'Dot', short for dóttir.

Controversy
Throughout the years, Motes's explorations caused several controversies within the Ode clade, culminating in systime 2362 when Memory Is A Mirror Of Hammered Silver reaffirmed cutting contact with the entirety of the fifth stanza in a very dramatic series of events.

Overflowing
When Motes overflows, she stops playing, and given the depth to which she has incorporated play into her being, this leads to get stopping pretty much everything else. She winds up nonverbal and all but catatonic, unable to engage with the world around her.
What Right Have I of the Ode clade is a member of the third stanza. As an up-tree of Oh, But To Whom, she is devoutly Jewish, and as an up-tree of Rav From Whence, she remains an accredited rabbi, though no longer accepts the title except in matters of ceremony, choosing instead to work on writing books and other literature for the Association of New Reform Congregations.

She was forked in 2152 when From Whence grew tired of masking neurodivergencies that all of the Odists share, and presents as quite autistic and anxious with stammering speech and both verbal and movement tics. She is a skunk-type Odist and is often seen in loose clothing — linen tunics with woolen trousers — and a kerchief holding back her mane.
As Judaism progressed sys-side, she helped to found the ANRC, the rabbinical college for New Reform Judaism, eventually becoming its chair off and on for several decades through her life.

Given her position of leadership, she worked often with Jonas and the eighth stanza — and True Name in particular, for whom she bears much fondness — on political matters related to community building, as well as those related to the Israeli Crisis.

She is fond of her up-tree, What Right Have I, and their relationship has veered into romance at least twice throughout history.

Several aspects of Judaism play large in the history of the System, from its origin and throughout the centuries that followed. This has led to an inextricable linkage between the Jewish world and life sys-side.Protocanon

History
Before the System
Prior to the advent of the System, the world struggled with the slow failure of the State of Israel. As skirmishes and battles drifted closer to and further away from war and accusations of genocide were levied to greater and lesser effect, many disaffected Jews, particularly of the younger generation, began to move away. This slow wave of Jews (including many Misrahi and Sephardic Jews) formed the foundation to what was later colloquially known as the Second Diaspora: a dispersing of Jews based on the idea of a Holy Land being spoiled by implementation. Two of these immigrants, Rachel Yaffe and Isaiah "Shai" Hadje, moved separately to the East Coast of the now-diminished United States and met in Pittsburgh, where they began a small family; some decades later, Michelle Rachel Hadje was born and went on to, through her up-trees, help guide the System into what it became as one of the largest consciousness-uploading systems available to humanity.

As the United States continued to wither and with tensions growing with the United Kingdom and France, Israel searched for new allies and found one in the Sino-Russian Bloc, entering into several treaties with them.

The early System and the Israeli Crisis
Post-Secession, the System held true to the articles of Secession and largely stayed out of phys-side politics.Their relationship with the two largest world powers, the Western Federation and the Sino-Russian Bloc, remained cordial: the S-R Block maintained a patronizing relationship, claiming the System's successes as its own, given its role in creating the System in the first place; while the Western Fed shared many values with the System's population and maintained a positive reputation with them.

In the latter half of the 22nd century, a counter-cultural movement, the New Zion Movement, began to grow in influence among the more conservative Jews, and to amass wartime materiel. After finding political success during the 2180s, the genocide that in part defined the preceding century returned in grand fashion. The Western Fed declared an unequivocal intent to stop the genocide by force if necessary, and the S-R Bloc found themselves treaty-bound to protect Israel, which led to a brief military action.

Fearing the potential for a third World War, a group sys-side, lead by From Whence, True Name and Jonas, organized a conference between the three parties — the Western Fed, The S-R Bloc, and Israel — which wound up drawing the military action that came to be known as the Twelve Hours' War. This sys-side group acted as mediators, despite the Articles of Secession indicating that they would not interfere politically with nations phys-side. Their successes here led to a solidifying of the System as a political player on a global stage, and a voice to be respected.

New Reform Judaism and the System
The events surrounding the Second Diaspora and the Twelve Hours' War led to the slow accumulation of voices behind a more progressive strand of Judaism that followed many of the same ideas behind Reform Judaism (as opposed to Reconstructionist or Humanist Judaism), which quickly ballooned to become the largest group, particularly sys-side.

This in turn led to the formation of the Association of New Reform Congregations, which served both as an organizational entity behind these congregations and an ordination (semikha) organization, with the primary organizational work, What Right Have I's Mishkan HaNetzach, being a living text that defined the growing movement. They were anti-Zionist, environmentalist, leaned socialist or anarchist, and viewed the System as a chance to continue in their work of tikkun olam. Some viewed the System as The World to Come, but this idea never gained majority traction.

One benefit of this growth was the fact that this strand of Judaism was particularly focused on a multimodal approach, engaging with Jews both embedded and embodied. With a sizable representation sys-side and as other forms of infolife, those who engaged with Judaism after uploading or as memorial uploads provided a perpetual anchor of effectively immortal membership. This was the key differentiator at first between the Reform and New Reform movements, given the disagreements on mitzvot as they applied sys-side/in Netspace, particularly surrounding kashrut and sacred objects such as sifrei Torah or the klaf inside mezuzot, though the differences have grown over time, with rituals surrounding forking, quitting, and individuation, blessings unique to infolife, and so on.

On the Origins of Our World and Judaism
One of the most widely read works sys-side was the Bălan clade's An Expanded History of Our World, which in turn was part of the larger work, On the Origins of Our World, along with May Then My Name Die With Me of the Ode clade's An Expanded Mythology of Our World. While much of the popularity may be chalked up to the Pilgrim's Progress Effect (that being a book that everyone feels obligated to own regardless of having actually read it), it remained a highly influential work.

Within the History and its chapter on Jewry in the System, the Bălans describe the situation thus:<blockquote>It is crucial that one understand that the System is an intrinsically Jewish enterprise. That is not to say that its demographics are skewed, nor that the institutions of Judaism hold particular sway over the System's development, but rather that the timeliness of the endeavor aligned and resonated with the Jewish world.</blockquote>This brought to the fore in the collective subconscious the self-reinforcing idea that there is a linkage, however loose, between the early development of the System and Jewish culture, history, and worldview. This led in turn to several papers dedicated to either confirming or refuting this idea. Regardless of the outcome of these papers, however, the conversation was cemented in place, and cropped up often on historical, cultural, and religious feeds in the Perisystem.
While this movement remains small and non-evangelizing, believers are seen as quite devout.
AwDae or RJ Brewster (ey/em; born 2086-05-09, died/uploaded 2115-02-19) was the lead sound technician for the Soho Theatre Troupe based in London. In 2112, ey became one of the lost. Eir fursona was a fennec fox, with a focus on detail that led to eir muzzle being unable to say the two letters of eir chosen name, often going by (and later requesting specifically that ey be addressed as) AwDae.

Two years after being retrieved from being lost, ey was contacted by the S-R Bloc in order to be one of the first attempts at uploading consciousness. While not strictly speaking successful, ey provided the beginnings of what was to become the System. Early on, many uploads mentioned feeling a presence within the System. It has been suggested that ey, in a way, provided the basis for the System itself. This led, centuries later with the publication of Sasha's Ode, to a movement venerating em.
