Tomash: Fix author/character ambiguities

The Scouts are a sub-clade of Tomash's. They are non-anthropomorphic (aka dog-shaped) dogs who wander the Systems and try to live as dogs as best they can. They have a secondary purpose, the Job, which is to keep an eye out for situations where Tomash's (or some other systech's) intervention might be needed and to summon help.

Most Scouts conclude their time as a dog after a few years or a decade or two and then "go home", merging back with Tomash to be incorporated into the sea of memories that form future Scouts. Some instead elect to "chase rabbits", entirely giving in to the desire to be an animal, and still others simply remain themselves for a long time.

The Scouts generally use he/it pronouns.

Like many dogs, the Scouts enjoy food, especially people food.

There were a few hundred extant Scout instances on Lagrange around 2400. Smaller (but not by much) populations exist on Convergence and Pollux.

Scout Chasing Rabbits
The dog known to the rest of its pack as Scout Chasing Rabbits (and to system records as a zero-width joiner or □) is a fork who, as seen in the Rabbit-Chaser section of Idumea (adapted from "Chasing Rabbits"), fully committed to being a dog out in the woods somewhere. It was an part of an earlier attempt at creating the Scouts and did not have the same sense of the Job that most Scouts do, which led it to abandon post-humanity entirely.

It seems to be having a good time.

Usability
You are welcome, no, encourages, to put a Scout anywhere you think there could be one. Ask User:Tomash for a look if you have concerns about how the Scouts are portrayed.

Naming convention
Scouts are generally numbered sequentially when they come into being, that is, while they are puppies. In that stage, they wander the System looking for a place (or people) to settle down, ideally one where they might be useful for the Job sometimes.

If multiple Scouts live in the same place, they use ordinal prefixes to distinguish between simultaneous Scout instances (for example, because there was already Scout Behind Coffeeshops, the next Scout to wander around the Infinite Cafe would be 2nd Scout Behind Coffeeshops) and Roman numeral suffixes to distinguish generations of Scouts that live in the same place (for example, there is both a Scout At The Party III and a Scout At The Party V).

These systems can be combined - 2nd Scout Behind Coffeeshops II would be the second Scout who needed to be 2nd Scout Behind Coffeeshops.

Table of Scouts
The ones that are not empty, however, remain dreadfully quiet. Most of those who are out and about have set up over themselves cones of silence. Those who have not, though, are decidedly not quiet. More than one silence has been broken by weeping and wailing.”
New Year’s Eve, 2399, and Lagrange is celebrating almost three centuries of relative peace. Yes, there have been surprises, there has been drama and political intrigue, but life has, by and large, been quite good for those who have chosen to upload their consciousnesses. They celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. They fall in and out of love. They fork, creating copies of themselves to accomplish tasks or live out their own independent lives. Their memories build up and up forever within them.
2.3 trillion souls gather in quiet homes, in bars and restaurants, in parks and along prosaic main streets, and count down seconds to the new century.

And then, without warning, everything comes grinding to a halt. The internal clock of the System hits one second before midnight, December 31, 2399, and then it hits midnight, February 11, 2401. One year, one month, and eleven days have gone missing.
And so has one percent of the population of Lagrange. 23 billion souls lost.

Tomash: Behold, dogs

Ask Tomash for a look if you have concerns about how the Scouts are portrayed.

Tomash is an anthropomorphic dog and a perisystem technician. He often works with the System Emergency Response Group to help people out, especially in cases where the mechanics and physics of the System have gotten them (or someone else) into a pickle they can't get themselves out of.

He has, after much practice, forked off a sub-clade, the Scouts. These are non-anthropomorphic dogs who settle around the System and keep an eye on things, while mainly just being dogs.

He appears in "Coffee Leak", where he helps someone new to the System who just wanted to reheat their coffee, in "Abandoned Highway" where he has a road to straighten out, and in "Hunting Dogs" where he sends someone on a quest.

He, through asking the Scouts fork back into versions of himself, appears in "Arise to Oath and Office", which was used as promotional material for Marsh.

Tomash's upload date is unspecified, but he was sworn in as a systech at some point between 2190 and 2259.

Aside from systech work, Tomash has been known to enjoy games (including puzzles and factory-making sims), role-playing, and reading ... and walks, of course.
(Since it seemed worth recording)

I, Tomash of my own clade, for myself and any future up-tree instances who maintain my rights, do swear before you to faithfully serve this System as a perisystem technician. I shall execute the duties of that office to the best of my ability. I shall use my technician's rights, powers, and authorities only for the good of the System and its people, forsaking private gain and partiality. I shall, to the extent I reasonably can, defend the functionality of the System against all defects and threats, both internal and external. I shall similarly endeavor to protect and preserve the individual freedoms granted to all people upon the System, and to use my office to render aid to those people as needed.
