The Energy Crisis of the 26th century describes one of the major sources of conflict among humanity as it is distributed through the Solar system.
By this point in history, the vast majority of humanity by numbers alone takes the form of infolife, mostly uploads of various sorts and post-humans with delegates running in netspace. The amount of energy required, then, to keep humanity alive is quite high.
Parallel to this issue is the problem of venting enough waste heat in space, reducing the effectiveness of on-site power generation. As such, most of humanity not living around a planet or closer to the Sun is beholden to high-efficiency batteries for power, which are charged at power stations where venting waste heat is more of an option, such as on Earth or in orbit around Saturn where such heat may be vented into the atmosphere.
With these combined, many view unrestricted uploading and creation of delegates as irresponsible for humanity that remains in wetspace.
With regards to the System
The System Consortium, based on their long-standing role as stewards of what is effectively its own national entity, has long tried to maintain energy independence. As such, all power for the Lagrange System is generated on-site via a massive solar array, and each System Shard similarly generates its own power, whether via solar or some other mechanism.
However, given the fact that cladists are a form of infolife, and given the fact that Shard stations often also host infolife servers, they are often lumped into these concerns. This has led to some instances of protests aimed at SysCon/the System.
